Welcome to the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation:
Welcome to the orthopaedic surgery experience at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. We hope you find this rotation both challenging and rewarding, and that you expand your medical knowledge and experience in the diagnosis and treatment of common musculoskeletal problems, and care of the orthopaedic patient.
Please find below a link to the orientation guide which includes the general objectives for the rotation, student expectations and responsibilities, orthopaedic conference schedule, guidelines for note writing, and other miscellaneous information for you rotation at UNMC. Please use this as a reference both before and during your rotation.
Also below, are links to a set of lectures that you will be receiving during your rotation. They cover some general information about orthopaedics including history and physical exam, x-ray interpretation, evaluation of the trauma patient, compartment syndrome, and upper and lower extremity trauma. Each week a resident will give a lecture to cover these topics. You should read beforehand and be prepared to answer questions during the lecture.
Throughout this rotation, you will get a mix of didactic and clinical training that should serve as a base upon which to expand your knowledge of and interest in orthopaedics. Please use this website as a guide.
Work hard, be inquisitive, and have fun during your time with us.
