Training Programs for International Partners
Our
office of International Healthcare Services (OIHS) opens
doors for international institutions and individual physicians
to create strategic international partnership programs with
the University of Nebraska Medical Center/The Nebraska Medical
Center.
Our International Professional Strategic Partnership Programs
offer distinctive benefits to our global partners, including
no cost training programs for qualified international partners.
Completion of Phase I is a pre-requisite for Phases II,
III, and IV programs.
Phase
I: No-Cost Training
at our Facilities
During
Phase I of our partnership program, we offer to perform
the latest orthopaedic surgical techniques on two of your
patients (a hip or knee replacement, for example) at our
facilities in Omaha. We will pay for their lodging, local
transportation, and meals at our hospital dining facilities.
Your institution will bear only the expenses for the patients'
surgical procedure, hospitalization, transportation, other
medical expenses and transportation expenses to Omaha for
your medical staff accompanying the patient.
Phase
II: No-Cost Training
at Your Center
We will send one of our orthopaedic surgeons, a specialist
biomedical engineer, a surgical nurse, and a rehabilitation
specialist from Omaha to your institution to train several
of your surgical staff members and deliver a series of seminars.
We will pay for expenses of our specialist's time during
these training programs at your institution, while you will
only pay for travel, accommodations, meals, local transportation
and other incidental expenses for our staff.
Phase
III: On-going Training in
Orthopaedics and Other Specialties
We will arrange convenient schedules for ongoing orthopaedic
surgery training and exchange programs, whereby you may
send two to three teams per year to our facilities in Omaha.
In turn, we will send our specialists or nurses once or
twice a year, on the same basis as the Phase II program.
With specialized training at your facility, your institution
can provide efficient, cost-effective venues for training
large numbers of your medical and rehabilitative services
staff.
Phase IV: Participation in Tele-Health
and Tele-Education Programs
The Office of International Health Care Services forms alliances with international institutions by providing tele-health programs to transmit medical information and images among locations via computer.
UNMC/The Nebraska Medical Center is one of only a few U.S. medical institutions providing such extensive, high-tech services to physicians and medical institutions around the world. Our tele-education programs can be customized for our international partners. Costs may vary depending on the programs. |

“I want to thank the entire staff of the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and Rehabilitation. I went to the clinic for help with a knee problem. The doctor explained things so I could understand the physical therapist was very gentle. Staff members treated each patient professionally and gave them individual attention. What a great experience!”
- Sara, Patient who had knee surgery and rehabilitation. |
This program allows the exchange of real-time interactive
diagnosis and electronic consultations for a variety of
medical specialties. Using our technology, specialists at
our facilities can study patient reports and histories,
pathology slides, X-rays, CT-scans, and radiological images
transmitted by our international partners. While your institution
retains complete independence over your patient's treatment
program, you and the patient benefit from the experience
of our specialists and information on the latest treatment
options available. Our specialists can consult with your
physicians on an ongoing basis throughout the patient's
treatment, all at our customary charges.
