Doctors Roll Out New Identity, New Beginning
Omaha, Neb. – January 13, 2005 marks a milestone; the launch of a new era for Omaha’s largest group practice. UNMC Physicians, formerly known as University Medical Associates (UMA), is pushing into the future with a new identity.
“We are, and always have been, committed leaders in providing high-quality patient care, cutting-edge research and highly regarded educational experience,” says Cory Shaw, Executive Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer of UNMC Physicians. “Our new identity embraces those three things.”
The name change is an evolution, a way to more clearly emphasize a long-standing professional connection with the University of Nebraska Medical Center. It establishes member doctors as leaders in their field and sets the group apart from other practices nationwide that also use a similar UMA title.
Shaw stresses, “It’s more than a new name for our organization, it’s a new beginning.”
Employees will help usher in this next phase with a special announcement set for noon, Jan. 13 in the west atrium of the Durham Outpatient Center. Rodney Markin, M.D., President and Chief Executive Officer of UNMC Physicians, will share plans for what promises to be an exciting and productive future.
UNMC Physicians represents the top medical professionals in the area, more than 400 doctors who provide a wide range of care to an estimated 50,000 patients. These physicians engineer miracles and define lifesaving treatments.
They replace failing organs with new ones; bring cancer patients hope; and calm worried parents. They fix broken bones and treat ear infections. They share new discoveries and knowledge with doctors and researchers around the globe.
“Our doctors are recognized as the best, both locally in Omaha and nationally,” Shaw says. “They are medical pioneers who also happen to have a terrific bedside manner. They’re really doing great things.”
108 of the group’s physicians are currently recognized as “Best Doctors,” reflecting respect and admiration among their peers. And, as members of the teaching faculty at UNMC, they play a critical role in shaping future generations of medical experts.
UNMC Physicians has seen incredible growth since its early days. The practice first formed in 1952 with four, full-time clinical faculty physicians and a small office staff. It now employs approximately 1,200 people and operates eight neighborhood clinics along with offices located on-site at the medical center.
